Fences

I'm working on a project, taking photographs of interesting fences. I took a neat one a while back, and read an article recently that suggested having a project that interests you. Fences are interesting, they make good neighbors, keep others out and owners in. I was driving downtown and saw the white fence with flowers on them, something I hadn't noticed before. I like the middle photo best of the white fence shots.
The cast iron fence is on a house on State Street. I liked the cage structure. I'll let the readers look for them if they are interested so I won't give any street addresses....

The City is Changing, and Spell Check, we don't need no stinkin spell check!

Above is a shot of the Dover Hardware store. It's getting ready to come down soon, to match the neighbor that used to be there, the Dover News Stand. Why the 2 didn't come down at once is a mystery to me. The building they are planning to put up will be a better use than empty space I suppose. Like many small towns the lack of easy parking has laid waste to former downtown businesses. Its a shame to lose the old details like the ones above the Dover Hardware sign though.

The Blue Coat Inn is no more. I hope they put up a decent building, but it's a shame to change the face of the lake. The building they are talking about is a 4 story miniature of some building downtown. Sounds stupid to me...

I live in a special hell. I can't type and it kills me to see mispellings in signs and documents. I always spot them in signs. Dictionary.com verified that Beggar is spelled with an a, not an e. Oh well...

Discovery Cove Rocks!

We went to Discovery Cove for one day as part of our trip to Florida. We all had a blast. It wasn't cheap, but it was so much better than Universal or the Mouse. I never even made it to Disney, and to be honest, I didn't miss it. I mean, Disney is ok, it just doesn't match Discovery Cove. Reasons I like the Cove:

  1. It's all inclusive. We didn't have to pay for anything above the entry fee. We had awesome lunches and free snacks and beverages all day. Universal tagged us for $35 for a lunch that Wendy's outdoes.

  2. It's not crowded. They limit the number of people that come in each day. They have purposely designed it so there are very rarely lines for anything. Compare this to 45 minutes in line for a 5 minute ride at other parks

  3. Dolphins. It was awesome swimming and interacting with them! We got to pet, kiss, hug the dolphin and then she gave us a little ride... amazing!

  4. We all loved the Aviary. Free food to give to the birds and they land on you! sheesh. There were about 200 kinds of birds in there, most of which I had never seen before.

  5. Snorkeling in a big saltwater impoundment with 9000 fish. Stingrays with 8 foot or bigger wing spans.

  6. No nausea from rides that took too long to get on, since there were no rides!

  7. Free admission to Sea World for a week!
  8. No badgering for time shares! We went to Universal, paid about a hundred bucks to get in, and they were bothering us with free ticket offers....

Old home week in Florida; or, I'm a Freakin Race Car Driving, Astronaut that Jousts for fun and does Ancient Mind & Body Control artist

While I was in Florida I decided to stop in at a few of my old stomping grounds. I dropped by the space center and they had me test a space suit out for them because of my past test pilot and astronaut skillz. I got them straightened out on a few things. After that I dropped in to the race track and caught up with a few of my Nascar buddies from the Coke Racing team. Once I tweaked a few nagging engine anomalies for them we all posed for the shot above. Finally, I was called upon to demonstrate my superior mind skills and do the bed of nails thing. The years I spent in the Himalayas have served me well. The jousting was great! Too bad the kids of today just weren't up to my mad jousting skills. They should recover soon though!

Florida shots

Here are some of my favorite shots that I took in Florida. The weed in the aquarium is a dragon fish, a close relative of sea horses. The bottom shot is of some orchids at orchid world. They look space alien-ey to me.

Lilly in a cup

Here's Lilly in a tea cup shaped planter. It's the hot thing on the photography forum I hang out on... I'm gong to photoshop out the walls and stuff and try her on a white background later.

Dover Park Pics

I went to the park today to see how it might do for taking some portraits. I found a lot of nice colors in the plants...

Flowers from Dover and some boat pics

Here are some recent shots I took in downtown Dover, and Leipsic, Delaware. The City of Dover gardeners rock! Spring is a real delight with thousands of bulbs in downtown Dover! The boats are cool, i keep heading out to leipsic (20 mins or so from my house) hoping for some cool sunset shots. The boats are closer tonight than they have been.

Yellow must be feeling mighty alone!

I like how the red tulips pretty much bisect this image!

The boats are crowded on the docks here.

Evening in Dover

I took these while I was downtown tonight, looking for some places to take some portraits in a casual setting. I like the side view and the black and white best.
I don't think I can use this old building, but, it looked pretty nice at sunset...
