Summer is ending

Pool time is at a premium now. My sister in law wanted some pics of her dog, Darby, in the pool. Darby loves the pool, and has lost a lot of weight swimming in it this summer. After the pool as the sun was setting, I got some cool rose pics in the golden hour lighting.

Flickr and me: Brooke Shaden

ballet:vacate, originally uploaded by brookeshaden.

This photo is not one of mine, though I wish it was!

One of my favorite ways to see what's going on photographically in the world is to check out Flickr.com, especially the explore section. Doing so gives me inspiration and really broadens my horizons. One of my favorite artists on the site is Brooke Shaden. Shes in California and barely in her 20s. Her images are beautiful, ethereal, surreal. She comes up with the most dreamlike stuff, and many of the photos are self portraits. Jumping in and out of photos is a serious challenge. One she's handled well. I think the images will last like a great painting. Her work inspires me.
I'll post others from time to time. In the meantime, go check out flickr.com, especially Brookes work!

Scenes from a Sunflower field

As the days get shorter, the summer crops are getting closer to harvesting. Sunflowers that used to be so beautiful are about ready to meet their destiny. Dove were in the field. In September, hunters will be shooting dove in this area.

Lightning bugs needed to get a room, right after dinner.

Lots of deer tracks all over this field

No longer things of normal beauty, I still enjoyed being here.

As we all know, say it with me. Square and black and white= art. Plus, it's about death. So now it's heavy art. All the goth folks can chime in now.

Scenes from Downtown Dover

I've been meaning to get to the park downtown and never got the round tu its in. Today I went after work and got the park pics. They came out ok, but I wasn't really psyched when I saw them. After I left the park area, I came across the gate and wall, during the golden hour. Dinner had to wait just a few more minutes for me. I'm glad I stopped!

Blast from the past

My nephew graduated at the end of May. We went down for the graduation and I never posted any of the pics. I'm cleaning the hard drive and found the folder of pics I never posted. Here are a few of my favorites.

Never make pirate faces before you steal the camera and go nuts with it. Uncles don't forget.

A great photo of my mom. She's not a particular fan of having her photo done.

I loved the cat's eyes.

Detail of the Zuiderdam

I liked the play of light and shadow near the waterline of the ship.

Shots from Skagway Alaska

These are details from a snow blowing train. It's out of action now, but used to blow snow off the tracks, throwing it more than a hundred feet away.

Obligatory Tourist shot, done by the bus driver. A guy from Hungary. How he ended up in Skagway Alaska was a mystery to me.

Diving and Feeding Humpback Whales Juneau Alaska

Frickin Awesome! The highlight of the trip
Posted by Picasa

Scenes from the Zuiderdam

I liked the lined up glasses in the Pinnacle Lounge.

A statue in a little niche near the elevator.

I did some shots during a Kitchen Tour using my 50mm lens, near wide open to give shallow depths of field. I really liked the mustard dish shot. It reminded me of an old world painting. Plus, I like the curve of the handle.

I liked the story from the carved fruit shot.

Grabbed this real quick, I didn't want to hold up the line of folks. Just liked the play of the light on the steel dishes.

Glacier Bay Alaska Photos

More proof I'm the king of foggy pics.

No relationship to the Titanic at all. Glaciers, deck chairs. No problem!

I liked the mushroom cap clouds on islands and hills.

The Sentinel.

I thought of these as Tribal Elders.

Mollie, Ashley and summer fun

Mollie you've seen before. Ashley is her cousin. I was supposed to shoot some other cousins with her today, but that fell through. Anyways we went to Silver Lake Park and had some fun. Good lord it was humid out! I saw a photo the other day I really liked that was blurred on purpose in the shoot. It inspired the blurred photo here. Kind of has the summer memory feel that I was going for.

Laurie, grand ma and grandpa came too.

They were natural models! Mollie is so much fun to work with. I'll be surprised if she isn't a model some day!
