Pre Wedding photos, Mary gets in on the act

Some friends of my sister are from Germany. They have decided to get married here in Delaware, on New Years eve. They asked me to do some indoor wedding shots, and I'm not sure how they'll come out so, I asked if they'd let me give it a go as a kind of Engaagement/wedding session, with my new (thanks Santa!!) camera. 7 of us hung out for the afternoon and evening with them at a few places I thought would be good for photos. Their outfits are traditional Bavarian wedding outfits. They are into light houses so that's why we were on a beach in December. Fortunately, the weather gods smiled on us!

Since I got a new camera, Mary wanted to try out using my old one, which is still a good camera. I've always said she has a good eye. It's interesting seeing what she saw while I was shooting.

Here is a group shot, taken with a timer at Silver Lake Park, right here in Dover.

I took the head on shot, Mary did the side shot.

A city of Dover motorcycle cop came through on his bike. Uli started talking to him and one thing led to another, then the officer allowed them to use the bike for a prop!
I took the top photo on the bridge, Mary did the second one.

Uli and Andrea are into lighthouses. I dragged them and the group down to Cape Henlopen after Dover so we could get some shots on the beach, and in front of the light house.

While I was doing the lighthouse pic, Mary took a one of her own!

Blues!

Tim and Bill decided to charge Mary, on 3.
We ended up at the fishing pier in Cape Henlopen park for these last photos. I like the first two a lot!

Thanks Uli and Andrea for having a great time in front of the camera! It was a great day!

Santa Was good to me this year!

Santa brought me a new camera, the Canon 40D. It's awesome! These photos are more or less straight out of the camera (SOOC for you camera buffs!) and haven't even read the manual shots. This camera is better than I am, so far!

Christmas Card Photo

If I was at all organized, this might have been our Christmas photo. The white socks weren't ideal, but, oh well...

Merry Christmas!

Foggy Morning, Wyoming Delaware and Bombay Hook

I woke up early this morning and saw it was foggy out, hopped in some clothes and went out shooting! First stop, Wyoming, Delaware.

Some kind of shrub is trying to make it in between the tracks and rocks. I'm always fascinated by the idea that mother nature leaves no area without life, or at least life trying to establish itself. Those of you that were up at this hour might have seen me laying between the tracks trying to take a shot of the little shrub. I'm not totally happy with those shots, so you'll just have to imagine a 47 year old, on his belly, with a camera, laying between the railroad tracks. At least it wasn't dark outside!

Then it was off to Bombay Hook.

As I've said before, I really want to get a shot of snow geese filling the air in a bright blue sky. I was looking at some of them today when a small group jumped up. I liked the effect of this in black and white.

Whenever I see birds out in bad weather, I think about the fact that they never get a break from it, instead they must endure. Thats what this photo makes me think of.

Bitterns are known for freezing in their tracks and using their plumage to camouflage themselves. This guy was in some short grass looking for some food when I came along in my car. He promptly moved into the adjacent weeds and took cover.

My favorite shot of the day. You can see his eyes looking at me. So, he's looking at me, looking at him while he looks at me.

Nifty 50's, or Merry Christmas

I took these photos yesterday for the Nifty 50 Friday project I kind of spearheaded on a photography forum I'm on. All the major camera companies make affordable 50 mm lenses out of plastic that take awesome photos. The lenses go for less than $100 bucks and anytime anyone says "what lens should I get after my kit lens?" the Nifty 50s are always mentioned first. Anyways, I took these 2 photos of different trees. Notice the fat fellow taking the pics in the balls. They are nice and Christmas-ey, so i thought I'd post them here too. Merry Christmas every one!

More lunch at the lake

The last 2 are the same image, with some tinting applied to the second one. I wonder if it's too yellow!

Downtown snowy night

AS I was coming home from work tonight, I noticed this alleyway area. I liked the colors and shapes, and had to do a quick u-ey to turn around and get this shot.

Lunch at the Lake

The first snow of the year fell today. It was more snowy sleet than snow, but still pretty to see. The squirrels were busy getting their lunches too.

Bombay Hook Snow Geese and Dusk

There were supposed to be some cloudy skies today so I went out to Bombay Hook hoping for a nice red sunset like we've been having for the last few days. I didn't necessarily expect the snow geese to be moving around. One of my goals is to be there in the afternoon one time when they all jump up and have a blue and white extravaganza. Anyways, right as the sun was going down, they came in for the night, by the thousands. It was spectacular. They sounded like a jet was coming towards me. I was flashing back to the Alfred Hitchcock movie, "The Birds".
